We aimed to carry out the mission statement through the following objectives:

1. Provision of high quality, evidence based, cost effective health care
2. Enabling access by the public to appropriate healthcare in a timely manner
3. Advancement of clinical nursing practice through education, mentoring and support for nurses seeking authorisation for nurse practitioner practice
4. Increasing awareness and understanding of the nurse practitioner role by the general public and other health professionals
5. Advocating politically and professionally to ensure that patient access to the unique services provided by nurse practitioners are equitable to all
