Concern over nurse-led GP clinic

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia has expressed concerns about plans for a nurse-led general practice clinic operating out of a Tuggeranong pharmacy, warning it is a step towards the ''Americanisation'' of our health system.The Canberra Times revealed yesterday the ACT Government had approved five nurse practitioner positions for Revive Clinic to operate a nurse-led clinic out of a pharmacy as part of a joint venture that already operates seven such clinics interstate.

Walk-in clinic part of Libs' health promises

A GP RAPID response unit and Tasmania's first walk-in clinic are part of a $155.4 million Liberal Party health package for Northern Tasmania.
The package expands on Labor's $132 million worth of promises for the Launceston General Hospital.

It means whoever is in government after March 20 will increase overall staff at the hospital by 16 per cent.

Calls for the next state government to expand the number and role of nurse practitioners to improve an overburdened health system have coincided with an interstate debate on independence for the specialist nurses.
The Australian Nursing Federation wants independent nurse clinics established if an agreement cannot be reached with local general practices.
