Nurse Practitioners in the ACT The Framework, Version Two (June 2008) has been recently released. This latest edition has been compiled using the most up to date information, legislation and policies from within the ACT. It accurately reflects the current processes required for Nurse Practitioner authorisation, establishment of new Nurse Practitioner positions and ongoing development of practicing Nurse Practitioners. Additionally, there is a "frequently asked questions" section which has been included to provide rapid access to the information most often requested.

A new survey reveals that Australia is failing to make best use of nurse practitioners within our health system.

"Given the high level of educational preparation and clinical expertise manifest in nurse practitioners, underemployment in this highly skilled sector of the nursing workforce represents a waste of valuable human resources," lead author of the survey report Professor Anne Gardner said today.

The study found that nearly a third of the nursing practitioners who responded to the survey were waiting for approval to prescribe medication.
