NURSE PRACTITIONERS REVIEW REPORT

The Minister for Health, John Hill officially launched the Nurse Practitioners in South Australia: Report for the review of processes for the implementation of the role on 4 August, at the Australian Nursing Federation (SA Branch) 17th Annual Delegates Conference 2009.

This report makes recommendations to address the barriers that have arisen in relation to the implementation of Nurse Practitioner roles. It also reports that Nurse Practitioners play a vital role in health services, bring about positive health outcomes for consumers and heighten consumer satisfaction.

These recommendations address the following key areas:

> Strategic clinical services planning

> Regulatory requirements for authorisation

> Policy and regulatory requirements for prescribing and diagnostics.

The Nursing & Midwifery Office will now work with major stakeholders to implement the recommendations as we build on our mutual commitment to provide safe, effective and accessible care for all South Australians.
