Luke Christofis was authorised in 2004 becoming the first Emergency Nurse Practitioner in South Australia and is currently working at the Lyell McEwin Hospital in South Australia. He is an inaugural committee member of the South Australian Nurse Practitioner Association and has been instrumental in the development and evolution of the South Australian branch of ACNP (Formally ANPA). Luke has a Masters degree from the University of South Australia and has been involved in various committee's leading to the implementation and prescribing of NP's in South Australia.

Tracy has worked as a perinatal and infant mental health specialist for over 10 years. She was authorised as a nurse practitioner in April 2006. Tracy works at Lyell McEwin Hospital in Adelaides North. Contact with women and their families commences early antenatally and continues as needed during the first year of the baby's life. Contact with women is via outpatient clinics, inpatient services, home visits, group therapy or telephone support/counselling. Therpay includes: mother-infant, cognitive behavioural, and structured problem solving. Tracy is currently collecting data looking at the group therapy outcomes and to date this has been very positive.

Nurses win battle for MBS rights

Legislation giving nurse practitioners direct access to Medicare and the PBS funding for the first time has been tabled in Federal Parliament in a move described by ministers as “historic”.

It came as the AMA, which has waged a vociferous campaign against the expanded role of nurse practitioners, announced it would work with the government on the policy.
