Welcome to the ACNP Western Australian Chapter web page. In 2003 the first nurse practitioners were registered with the Nurses & Midwives Board of Western Australia. Since then Western Australia has witnessed strong growth in the nurse practitioner movement and various nurse practitioner clinical placements. From beginnings with a focus in rural and remote health care, nurse practitioners are now part of clinical teams in haematology, wound care, aged care, urology, emergency care, diabetes, liver service, respiratory transplant, and renal dialysis. WA NPs and NP candidates first met in February of 2006 to form a State branch of the then ANPA. The aim of the WA Chapter of the ACNP is to provide a forum for nurse practitioners to contribute to the further development of the NP role through dissemination of information, participation in State and National decision-making, and mentoring new NPs. The work to date affirms that the WA Chapter is meeting its objectives. In 2007 WA hosted the Australian Nurse Practitioner Association 3rd Annual Conference. We have held local workshops dealing with issues pertinent to the role of the NP, and our recent initiative to engage all NPs across the State in our workshops has been to utilize video linkage services. The ACNP WA Chapter committee welcomes and encourages participation from all nurse practitioners and nurse practitioner candidates.
