The International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife
& 20 Years of Nurse Practitioners in Australia
To all Nurse Practitoners, Nurses and Midwives,
Congratulations on the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife. In collaboration with the World Health Organisation and International Council of Nurses, 2020 aims to raise the status and profile of nursing around the world.
2020 is a significant year as it marks the 200th birthday of Florence Nightingale, considered by many as the founder of modern nursing.
The year 2020 is an important year for all Nurse Practitioners in Australia, as we celebrate 20 Years of Nurse Practitioners (NPs) working within Australian health care. In 2000, the first NPs were endorsed in Australia, and now over 1,900 NPs work as key members of the healthcare team and collaborate with other nurses and healthcare professionals including GPs, medical and surgical specialists, physiotherapists, dieticians, occupational therapists, NPs work in a variety of locations, both in hospital and community settings.
Join us in 2020 to celebrate Nurses, Midwives and 20 Years of Nurse Practitioners in Australia.
The ACNP has many activities planned for the year and ways that you can assist and be involved. Download the campaign booklet and find out how we can celebrate together!
Leanne Boase, President ACNP
“2020 International year of the nurse and midwife is a once in a generation opportunity to propel nursing and midwifery into the spotlight and onto the agenda of governments globally, with the ultimate goal of improving health for all."
There are many ways that you can be involved and help to celebrate 20 Years of Nurse Practitioners in Australia and the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife.
Nurses have worked together throughout history. The ACNP wishes to create a celebration wall where historical photographs are on display of Nurse Practitioners, Nurses and Midwifes for all to see and enjoy.
The wall will be displayed at the ACNP website, on social media and at the the 2020 National Conference.
The road to becoming an NP is different for everyone.
In 2020 we would like to showcase a selection of stories about NPs and their experiences throughout 20 years of NP’s in Australia.
Help others to see the journey is all worth it.
