This workshop will provide an overview of Nurse Practitioner’s role in prescribing, the key issues faced with particular focus on PBS access, regulations and limitations.

  • Key issues: legislation, ethics, PBS, scheduling changes 
  • Evidence based prescribing  and essential resources

Mundipharma Pain Management  - Monday 2nd September 

The Nurse Practitioner Pain Management Master Class is an interactive workshop designed to enhance the assessment and management of patients with chronic pain, with a particular focus on patients with moderate to severe chronic non-cancer pain. It focuses on applying a socio-psycho-biomedical approach to assessing and managing chronic pain. It looks at both the role of medications and non-pharmacotherapies. In addition, it provides a systematic approach (based on universal precautions) to the use of opioid analgesics to support the quality use of medicines in patients with chronic pain.

The specific learning outcomes are to:

  • Recognise the complexity of chronic non-cancer pain
  • Apply a socio-psycho-biomedical approach to the assessment and management of chronic pain
  • Apply best practice principles when prescribing opioid analgesics in the management of moderate to severe chronic non-cancer pain

Basic Suture Workshop - Wednesday 4th September - SOLD OUT

This workshop is open to Conference Delegates and is aimed to those who have never sutured before, or as a refresh for those who have not sutured for a while.  NP Candidates learning in this area welcome.

Program Overview: 

  • skin anatomy
  • wound preparation
  • sutures; types & uses
  • instruments; correct usage & types
  • simple suturing techniques; transcutaneous suturing, deep dermal suturing

Please note: this workshop is not suitable for anyone with a practicing knowledge of suturing.

There is a $10.00 charge for this workshop to cover the cost of instruments and materials

 

Advanced Suture Workshop - Wednesday 4th September - SOLD OUT

This workshop is open to Conference Delegates and is aimed to those who have a practical knowledge of suturing and perform this procedure in their practice.  There will be NP surgical assistants on hand to answer advanced questions and guide the practical component of the workshop.  

Program Overview: 

  • review of basic suturing
  • new suture technologies; barbed sutures, antimicrobial sutures
  • advanced instrumentation; different needle holders and forceps
  • advanced suturing techniques; mattress suturing, high tension suturing, multilayered suturing
  • dressings to support sutured wounds

Please note: this workshop is not suitable for anyone who has not sutured previously or regularly in their practice.

There is a $10.00 charge for this workshop to cover the cost of instruments and materials.
