I’m so pleased to be sending this email to you today.  This is a HUGE announcement For ACNP!

ACNP has grown slowly but surely over the years, and as you would all know by know, the bigger we get, the more influence we have when it comes to change.

Well today, ACNP takes a much bigger leap!  We did it!

You would have heard at the May 2023 budget, and as part of the NP Workforce Plan announcements, there was a $49.3M nursing and midwifery scholarship program to commence this year.

After an extensive and highly competitive process to apply to administer the program, ACNP is now being announced as the successful organisation!

The announcement is happening today in Rural Victoria, and we are delighted that the announcement will be made by the Hon. Ged Kearney, Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care.  We will share some photos and more information later today.

Why ACNP? What are the benefits to the scholarship participants? We will:

  • Support successful applicants to the scholarship program to advance their practice, and work to their optimum scope of practice
  • Add to their learning experience with ACNP resources, and resources we will share with other nursing and midwifery organisations
  • Promote culturally safe practice, and grow the First Nations workforce
  • Work with other nursing and midwifery organisations to promote advanced practice and learning opportunities
  • Promote and support opportunities for First Nations nurses and midwives to access education and advance their practice
  • Provide opportunities for mentorship and peer review

What does this mean for ACNP?

  • We will design and implement a scholarship platform for applications, assessment and approvals
  • We expand the ACNP team significantly to manage the program over the next 3.5 years
  • Our membership will grow rapidly, allowing ACNP to develop more resources for members
  • This growth in membership adds strength to our voice, advocating for better health care through fully enabling and supporting nurse practitioners

I’m sure as members of ACNP you understand what an enormous achievement this is.

The Scholarship Program will be led and managed by Jackie Mills and myself, and I would like to thank Jackie for her extraordinary commitment to ensuring we were successful in this application.  The ACNP Board provided us with a lot of support, resources encouragement and expertise to ensure our success.

We look forward to providing updates and more information very soon.

Kind regards

Leanne Boase

CEO ACNP
