The ACNP National Symposium will be hosted in South Australia from the 14-16 October 2021. 

The Symposium theme in 2021 is '21 Years of Nurse Practitioners: Let's Celebrate the Diversity.'

We invite you to come along and join over 200+ Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Practice Nurses, Nursing Students, Health Professionals and Academics for a fun, educational and inspirational 3 days.

A/Prof Sharon Liberali 

The Director and Senior Consultant, Special Needs Unit, Adelaide Dental Hospital, SA Dental Service, A/Professor Liberali is also Program Director in Special Needs Dentistry at the School of Dentistry, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Adelaide, and the Principal Dentist at Health Partners Dental. She currently Chairs the national ADA Infection Control Committee and is the ADA representative on the HE-023 committee for Standards Australia and the NHMRC Infection Control Guidelines Advisory committee.


Duncan McKellar

Dr Duncan McKellar

Duncan McKellar is a psychiatrist specialising in the care of older people. He holds two roles, as Head of Unit for the Older Persons’ Mental Health Service in the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network, and as Clinical Advisor for Older Persons’ Mental Health in the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist. He was a member of the Oakden Review panel with the South Australian Chief Psychiatrist in 2017 and subsequently took a lead role in the reform processes required after publication of the Oakden Report. This included the establishment of Northgate House, as a prototype for the statewide neurobehavioural unit, a new type of service providing care for people with the most complex needs resulting from dementia. In 2018 Northgate House won the SA Health Award for improving safety and quality. Duncan remains committed to compassionate relationship-centred care delivered by a growth orientated inter-disciplinary teams with people, their families and carers at the centre of care and service development.


Catherine Keil

Catherine Keil, Nurse Practitioner 

Catherine Keil is an Australian/British Nurse Practitioner specialising in travel health and immunisations. After travelling and working in Africa, South East Asia and Central America she became a practice nurse based in London. She specialised in travel health which led her to working for Emirates Airline in Dubai for 10 years where she was instrumental in setting up a travel health clinic for the crew and families. In 2006 she completed the Diploma in Travel Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow, UK, and in 2014 completed the ISTM Certificate in Travel Health. After moving to Australia she started her own business “Travel Health Practitioner” in 2018.

In 2018, she became an elected member of the International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM) Nursing Professional Group Steering Council.

In 2019, she became a Fellow of the Faculty of Travel Medicine (FFTM), Australasian College of Tropical Medicine (ACTM). In 2020 she was elected Co-Chair of the ACTM Standing Committee for Travel Health Nurses of Australia and New Zealand.


Amanda Muller

Dr Amanda Muller 

Dr Amanda Muller is a Senior Lecturer in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Flinders University. She has 22 peer-reviewed journal publications in nursing and midwifery, 17 of which are in top quartile ranked international journals. She is a Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency expert member, nationally accredited editor, and Australian Research Council Assessor. Her three main research areas include, but are not limited to, exclusive breastmilk expression, language testing within healthcare, and nursing education. She is currently working on five projects: (1) stakeholders’ understanding of English testing, (2) resources and training strategies for the use of digital technologies in hospitals, (3) mental health impact of COVID-19 on nursing students, (4) critical thinking development in midwifery, and (5) expectancy-value beliefs among nursing students. Dr Muller teaches topics such as Advancing Research Knowledge to Inform Healthcare Practice, Doing a Literature Review, and Epidemiology and Population Health in postgraduate nursing.


Peter Jenkin

Peter Jenkin, Nurse Practitioner 

Peter Jenkin is a palliative care nurse practitioner, working for the last nine years at Resthaven, a large South Australian aged care provider. He has worked in various clinical, research and education roles in palliative care for more than 25 years and was a key member of the team that developed the "Palliative Approach Toolkit" for residential aged care facilities which was rolled out nationally by the Australian Government.

Peter was the first and remains one of only a handful of specialist palliative care NPs in Australia employed by aged care providers.


Karen Redman

Karen Redman, Nurse Practitioner, Mayor of Gawler.

Karen Redman has been a breast cancer nurse at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woodville South Australia for over 10 years. In that time she has developed the role from that of a ‘hospital in the home’ nurse to an autonomous nurse practitioner service providing comprehensive care from diagnosis and beyond- the first of its kind in Australia. Some key milestones include keynote speaker at the International Breast Cancer Conference in Riyadh 2009, Saudi Arabia and endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner in 2010, with a permanent position as a Breast Care NP secured in early 2011.

Karen has presented several research posters including at The 7th European Breast Cancer Conference 2010, Barcelona in 2012, at The Sydney International Breast Cancer Conference, and in 2018, Karen presented on her role at The International Breast Cancer Symposium, Hue Vietnam.

Karen decided in 2010 to put her hand up as an elected member in local government. In 2014 Karen was elected as Mayor of Gawler on a platform of  increasing Gawler’s presence in the region and  delivering the civic centre project as part of a cultural heritage agenda with the  themes of intelligence, balance and compassion.

Currently, Karen combines her role as a NP in cancer care with that of Mayor of Gawler.


Carol Douglas

Carol Douglas, HESTA Nurse Practitioner of the Year

Carol works as a Residential Care Line Nurse Practitioner at The Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth.

Carol’s role included the creation of the NP led sustainable RCL outreach service model and was designed to prevent avoidable presentations to the Emergency Department.

Carol has expert clinical skills and is shown to provide excellence in clinical care and patient outcomes.
