Expressions of Interest – Help shape culturally safe hospital care for First Nations people

 

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders are invited to have their say about ways to strengthen cultural safety and address racism in Australian hospital systems.

Between now and September 2026, the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care will be reaching out across the country to listen, learn, and discuss options for strengthening cultural safety in hospital care.

The Commission is seeking input from people and organisations with knowledge, experience or expertise in cultural safety, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, hospital care, health system reform, lived experience, workforce practice, governance, accountability, standards, accreditation, measurement or service delivery.

To ensure the Commission hears from a diverse range of people and organisations, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, they are starting with an Expression of Interest (EOI) process to help them understand the best ways to connect, share information and yarn.

The EOI is not the consultation itself. It is a short form that will help them understand:

• Your or your organisation’s interest in cultural safety in hospitals
• Your perspectives, knowledge, experience or expertise
• Your availability to participate (time zones, weekdays, evenings, etc.)
• How you would like to engage (virtual, in writing, small groups etc.) 
• Whether you are representing an organisation or sharing personal experiences
• Any cultural, accessibility, technology or practical considerations we should consider to ensure voice equity
• Whether you would also like information about other related engagement opportunities, including for example the separate National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards (third edition) consultations.

The EOI will close on 30 July 2026.
