Grow as we Grow!  First of its kind in Victoria: Urgent Care Centre at Barwon Health to be led by Nurse Practitioners!

Barwon Health sits within one of Victoria’s six regional health care centres and services the community of Geelong and Barwon South West Region. Geelong is Victoria’s second largest city after Melbourne and is becoming recognised as a creative city-region, adaptive and enterprising and is located close to the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula, Surf coast and Great Ocean Road.

Barwon Health provides care at all stages of life and circumstance. Health services available through Barwon Health cover the full spectrum from primary care, community services, aged care, rehabilitation, mental health, emergency and acute care. There are approximately 7000 staff across 24 locations.

In January 2020 Barwon Health will be opening a new state of the art facility which includes a stand-alone Urgent Care Centre the first of its kind in Victoria. Barwon Health North is conveniently located in the growth Corridor of Geelong’s Northern suburbs, Co-located with the City of Greater Geelong’s Northern Arc and Wellbeing Hub.

Barwon Health are seeking Nurse Practitioners (NP) to utilise their advanced scope of practice in an autonomous clinical role to lead the Urgent Care centre. Suitable candidates would be required to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team. They must have an advanced level of decision making that will be pivotal in providing timely access to high quality responsive care in the Urgent Care Centre setting. 

This role will be a part of the North Area Health Team, and care will be delivered by a team of nursing professionals, supported by remote specialist advice from the Barwon Health Emergency Department (ED) and inpatient teams accessed by Tele-Health. A local team of volunteers will be available to support concierge services.

The Nurse Practitioner Urgent Care Centre will provide evidence-based care in an ambulatory setting; to patients in consultation with Medical Practitioner and other health care providers in a diverse community. The Nurse Practitioner has a clinical leadership role in the program. Leading the clinical team in providing evidence-based care and assisting with the development of all clinical team members. There is a requirement that they be a endorsed nurse practitioner who is experienced and confident to function autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role within their scope of practise, providing innovative and flexible health solutions.  Specifically, this will be achieved by:

  • Providing leadership, guidance and accountability pertaining to clinical standards to achieve high quality health care.
  • Demonstrating behaviours and attitudes that are consistent with Barwon Health's values and strategic plan and professional nursing philosophy.
  • Supporting the relevant Managers to build and maintain high performing clinical team that operates within a performance framework to drive a culture of accountability, best practice and innovation.
  • Fostering a culture of ongoing development and improvement.

 

This role will be rostered to cover a 7 day a week 8 am to 10pm Urgent Care Centre. There will be 14 shifts a week available for Nurse Practitioners plus leave cover. Full time and part time hours available.
