Webinar 3 of 3: Heart Failure 101 - Understanding the Heart Failure Patient

Heart failure affects 0.7% of the population, that is 144,000 Australians over the age of 18 years. Within healthcare, we regularly encounter a patient experiencing symptoms suggestive of heart failure. Our understanding of this syndrome and its impact on overall health outcomes is crucial in the paradigm of management.

This case study provides evidence of how nurse practitioners can facilitate guideline directed medical therapies to achieve a positive experience and outcome for the patient.  Acute exacerbations of heart failure are often triggered by an underlying issue, in this case a respiratory tract infection. Understanding the degree of LV dysfunction supports clinicians in choosing adequate therapies to optimise myocardial function and support return to home.
